September 24, 2009 New Functionality Release Announcement

VideoPublishing.com is pleased to announce the release of several new enhancements.  All are available immediately.

Support for “skins”

You can now create and use custom skins for your players.  Once a skin is created, it will be available in the Players section (whether creating a new player or editing an existing one).  There is now a new drop-down available there, called “Skins”.  If you are using the base default skin (i.e., have not created a custom skin), this drop-down will not display, so as not to confuse users.

New Tools to Enable the Sharing of Videos

There are two new tools to enable social/viral sharing of videos.  The player now displays a link to show the embed code, so a viewer can copy this onto another website where yet more viewers may discover it.  Similarly, the player now displays a button to activate “email to a friend”.  Note – the default setting is to allow sharing.  However, you can disable sharing when creating or editing a player.

Statistics and Syndication Management

You can now see viewership statistics, not just at the video level, but now at the video-player level (in other words, if video is embedded in two different players, you can see views separately for each).

Building upon the above, you can see statistics for each embed of a video.  This allows you to manage ‘embed this video’ at a very detailed level.   You can see which re-embeds are driving viewership and, moreover, you can block a specific host from streaming a particular embed, if you want to.

You can access the player and embed statistics, and syndication management by selecting a Video, then Details, select an embed and then Stats.

Real-time Statistics

The statistics in your account for views per video or per player are now updated in real-time (at worse a few seconds or minutes delay, but we are pushing to keep the delay consistently below 2 seconds).   Please note that the overall account-level statistics found on the dashboard are updated daily, as they are the definite figures for that day’s usage.

Other New Capabilities

Improved support for .asf files

The API now allows display of full video details for playlist info method, in order to avoid redundant requests when getting playlist videos

Updated Developer Tools

In support of all of these new capabilities, as well as some fixes to the API, we have updated the API and the PHP wrapper.

These can be accessed at http://videopublishing.com/web-developers.html
